The Financial Aid Service walk-in hours are open at the Campus Life information point on Wednesdays 10am to 12pm and Thursdays 2pm to 4pm (closed on May 1st and 29th).

A debt-relief service is also available at Campus Life information point, on the last Wednesday of each month from 10am to 12pm.

The Service aims to help students in precarious situations who are having difficulty covering their expenses. Ad hoc assistance is offered to students to help them overcome a temporary and unforeseen financial difficulty, such as a sudden and temporary loss of income, significant unforeseen expenses and/or not covered by social insurance. This assistance can be requested once per semester.

Types of assistance
  • Job loss;
  • Food aid;
  • Housing aid;
  • Material costs;
  • Medical expenses in Switzerland (not covered by health insurance).
Criteria for submitting an application
  • Be enrolled at UNIGE or HES-SO Geneva in a Bachelor’s or Master's program;
  • Prove a temporary and unforeseen financial difficulty according to the types of needs mentioned above;
  • Do not have a savings capacity and/or wealth to meet your needs for the next three months.

Requests for emergency assistance are made exclusively online via our form. They can be granted once per semester, for 1 to 3 months maximum.

Steps to submit an application
  1. Complete the online form;
  2. Attach all mandatory documents;
  3. Submit the complete file online.

It is the student’s responsibility to submit a complete file within the deadlines. In case of difficulties in obtaining documents, filling out the form, or for general questions, please contact our service by phone, email or during our walk-in hours.

Necessary documents

Personal documents

  • Swiss IBAN number1;
  • Copy of the balance of all your Swiss and foreign bank accounts dated to date;
  • Last transcript of grades;
  • If you have children:
    • Proof that you financially support your child(ren);
  • If you are married:
    • Marriage certificate or family record book;
  • If applicable2 :
    • Most recent tax assessment or withholding tax notice from your parents (Impôt cantonal et communal/Cantonal and Communal Tax - ICC).

Proof of income

  • Grants/donations from an organization other than our service;
  • Payslips and/or work certificates;
  • Employment contract;
  • Health insurance subsidies;
  • Alimony (provide your parents’ divorce judgment);
  • AVS/AI, orphan’s, widower’s pensions, supplementary benefits;
  • Unemployment benefits;
  • Spontaneous financial support from parents;
  • If you are a French resident:
    • Family allowances, CAF
    • Housing allowance, APL
  • Any proof of income not appearing on your most recent tax assessment (e.g. salaries, scholarships/donations from other organizations, salary certificates, family allowances, health insurance subsidies, alimony, AVS/AI pensions, unemployment benefits, etc.).

Proof of income for the last 3 months

  • Any proof of income (e.g. salaries, scholarships/donations from other organizations, family allowances/housing, health insurance subsidies, alimony, AVS/AI pensions, unemployment benefits, etc.).

Expenses

  • Last health insurance policies;
    • Including spouse’s and children’s;
  • Lease or sublease contract;
  • Proofs for SBB (Swiss Fereal Railways) subscription (only for residents of another canton);
  • Any other expense related to your child.

An evaluation will be made and a decision will be communicated to you. The Financial Aid Service reserves the right to request additional documents for the evaluation of the situation.

For students under 25 and/or dependent.

Submission deadlines
  • For the Autumn semester: from August 1 to December 20, 2024;
  • For the Spring semester: from January 15 to June 30, 2025.

The submission of an application does not guarantee its granting, each file is evaluated on the basis of numerous factors. Applications will be processed in chronological order of submission to ensure fair treatment.
