Working during your studies can help you develop your skills, earn money, add some lines on your resume and broaden your experience and network. However, working and studying at the same time can be quite challenging.

Workshops and interviews

These activities are available to UNIGE students (except from continuing education) and to graduates (during the two years following their graduation).

Finding a job during your studies can take time and energy. We offer support to help you with your search:

  • Review your ongoing processes and applications;
  • Get advice and information that will optimize your search;
  • Discuss your past and ongoing applications;
  • Discover the student jobs opportunities in Geneva and the available resources.

Revision, advice and information for your resume

When? Once a semester;

Where? Campus Life information point (Uni Dufour 1st floor)

Will your resume catch the eye of an employer? Take part in our short revision sessions with a HR professional (30 minutes). With this workshop, you will:

  • Get a first opinion on your resume from a professional (both content and form);
  • Receive advice to improve your resume.

The Career Center offers in-depth support all year long for you to improve your resume and cover letters through workshops and one-on-one interviews.

More than 60% of the students work and study. Despite the vivid economy of our region, finding a job that matches your needs and your study plan is not that easy. With this workshop, you will:

  • Get information on different sectors, available student jobs, and useful resources;
  • Receive tips to improve your student jobs search strategy and tools to help you in your search;
  • Identify the key elements that employers are looking for. You can acquire them through student jobs, even if those do not require any qualification.

Working during your studies makes you financially independent and helps to improve your skills and your network.
However, this can be quite difficult and have consequences on your studies and your wellbeing.
This workshop provides you with customized and useful solutions. With this workshop, you will:

  • Identify the pros and cons of working during your studies and how to manage both of them;
  • Discover time management methods and tools. This is a key skill to reconcile work and studies;
  • Have an individual assessment on how you proceed in different areas of your life that influence your academic and professional development.

Reconcile career and studies

The University of Geneva offers support for you to manage your studies and keep a good work-life balance. Workshops, one-on-one interviews, financial aid, and measures offered by your Faculty to accommodate your studies are available.

Find support

  • "Succeeding in your studies" workshops - Workshops that will give you methods, tools and tips for you to manage your studies;
  • Coaching - Workshops and personalized support for you to define and reach personal, professional, or academic goals;
  • Student health (SSE) - The Health Service offers health support of great quality and accessible to students during their studies:
    • Psychological counseling service and follow-up consultations;
    • Sleep consultations;
    • Workshops and group discussions on different topics: Self-assertion, dealing with emotions, mindfulness, sleep problems, body image;
    • A free medical appointment: Advice and orientation on health questions;
    • A "special needs" program for students who wish to accommodate their study plan due to health conditions or disabilities.
  • Sports activities - A UNIGE study shows that playing sports and succeeding in one's studies are correlated, especially when one plays sports at university.

Get a scholarship

The University of Geneva offers financial aids to students for them to pursue and finish their studies under the best possible conditions.
There are multiple aids: monthly scholarships, need-based scholarships, tax exemption, mobility grants.

Adjust your schedules

Some faculties can help you reconcile studies and work: Get more time to complete your studies, study part-time, or have a more relaxed timetable. These measures are specific to each Faculty.
The Faculties' study regulations will give you information on the matter. Student services from your Faculty and academic counselors can also assist you.
