Activity support is financial assistance for students at UNIGE and HES-SO Geneva. It is an emergency assistance. It enables you to participate in sports and cultural activities and language courses. We can pay up to CHF 600 per semester.

Sporting activities

You can participate in many sports classes at the University of Geneva (e.g., fitness, yoga, skiing, etc.). If you are a student, you can access our sports facilities at reduced rates.

Cultural activities

You can participate in cultural events, theater workshops, and other activities organized by the University of Geneva. There are often discounts for local shows.

Language courses

You can take classes (e.g., French, English, German, etc.) at the Maison des langues (University of Geneva's Language Center) to improve your language skills.

Who can apply for activity support?

To apply for one-time emergency assistance, you must:

  • be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program at UNIGE or HES-SO Geneva,
  • be in immediate and unforeseen financial difficulty,
  • not have sufficient savings to cover the next three months.
How do I apply for activity support?

Important: if you have already applied for financial assistance for the same academic year, the form may no longer be accessible. In this case, please write to us at: aides-financieres(at)unige.ch.

When should you apply for activity support?
  • For the fall semester: August 1 to December 20,
  • For the spring semester: January 15 to June 30.
Documents to provide for an application for activity support

To apply, you must provide certain documents:

  • a letter explaining your financial situation and why you are applying,
  • a copy of your identity document or residence permit,
  • the IBAN number of your personal bank account (if you are in the process of opening an account, please let us know),
  • a declaration of financial support from your parents or a guarantor,
  • your latest tax assessment notice (impôts):
    • if you are under 25 or financially dependent on your parents/guarantors: their tax assessment notice,
  • your Swiss and foreign bank account balances,
  • your income and expenses for the last 3 months (salaries, benefits, rent, insurance, etc.).

Important:

  • We may ask you for additional documents to assess your situation.
  • Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will receive support for activities.
  • We process applications in the order in which they are received.
