Mandatory internships, called intracurricular internships, can be part of some faculties’ courses. We also offer extracurricular internships; both allow you to gain experience during your studies and be a better candidate to employers.

During an internship, you will:

• Shed light on the domains that appeal to you or not;
• Discover companies from your domain;
• Better understand the expectations from those companies and the profiles they are looking for;
• Understand the etiquette and best practices;
• Build a network before even starting to work;
• Acquire a first experience that will be valuable in your resume;
• Obtain a certificate that will reassure your employer during the recruitment process.

Do not fall into the following traps:

• Accepting an internship shorter than 3 months. They are too short to be valuable;
• Accepting an internship that consists of basic tasks (for example photocopying, archiving, typing). Internships that are below your academic qualifications won’t be of much value;
• Starting an internship without knowing your employer’s expectations and how you will be supervised. An internship without supervision you won’t be of much value.

Within the canton of Geneva, the minimum wage for students undertaking an extracurricular internship must be CHF 24.32/hour (Canton of Geneva minimum wage as of 01.01.2024). Some offers on our platform might show a wage below that sum, or no wage at all: they only concern intracurricular internships.

There is no legal minimum wage in the other cantons.

Internships are only available to students.

However, some companies offer “trainee programs.” They can help you entering a sector and should not be ignored. We can help you find such programs, so don’t hesitate to contact us.
