Employability

Career mentorship program

Organized by the Career Center and Alumni UNIGE (the University of Geneva alumni association), this program aims to make the first steps from the University to the professional world easier. It connects students during their Master’s degree or PhD (called “mentees”) to UNIGE graduates (called “mentors”) who want to share their experience of the professional world.

You know that you’re about to enter the professional world and are motivated to apply yourself to an exchange with a graduate mentor? They will share with you their experience in the professional world and will help you through the realization of your professional goals.

Thanks to the mentorship, you will be accompanied for 7 months by a mentor that graduated from the University of Geneva, just like you. They work in the domain you are interested in, will share their knowledge of the professional world and will help you:

  • Better understand the domain you wish to work in and its needs;
  • Discover your strengths and skills;
  • Start your network.

This program requires at least 20 hours of your time, with:

  • At least 3 one-on-one meetings with your mentor, with additional time to prepare yourself;
  • 2 general meetings (start and end of the program);
  • 2 workshops/conferences.

Who can take part in this program?

At the time of the program, students enrolled in a Master’s degree or PhD at the University of Geneva.

 Registration (available in French only)

Become a mentor!

Share your experience with a UNIGE graduate-to-be and help them in their first steps to work!

You have a university diploma and have been working for at least 5 years? You would like to share your experience of entering the professional world with a soon-to-be graduate?

You have a positive view on the professional world and are aware that transitioning from studying to working requires preparation? You would like to help a young adult that is interested in the same domain as you (a mentee)? Maybe would you have liked to receive the same help during your studies?

What is a mentor?

As a mentor, you will have to:

  • Spread your knowledge of your professional domain: its culture, professional practices, the positions and companies that are part of this sector;
  • Share your own experience;
  • Support your mentee in developing their network. Allow them therefore to actively explore the domain they are interested in and so as to specify their career plans;
  • Give feedback on your mentee’s experiences and skills.
