Steps to find a job

You need a clear strategy to find your first job. If you want to make the most out of it, you need to identify the different steps of this process.

1. Choose a path 🧭

Before anything else, you must identify what you aspire to, or at least the professional sector that matches your ambition. This first step can be disturbing given the many possibilities there are and the opacity of the labor market.
Don’t worry! We offer several tools for you to define the first part of your professional journey! For instance, the career plan and assessment workshop will help you find the activities you feel at ease with. Having a mentor or having informal conversations can also be useful!

2. Get ready 🥋

Now that you have a goal, you will be able to decide what skills you have to develop according to your chosen domain. No matter what you do, your studies will grant you precious knowledge that the professional world will appreciate.
The Career Centre can supplement your studies with ways to gain soft skills. Our Soft Skills program will provide you with simple and concrete tools focusing on the skills most sought-after by employers. Our Career mentorship program will help you and give you keys to understanding the professional sector you are aiming for.
Finally, extracurricular activities such as cultural/sports activities or taking part in an association will help you develop skills and a network.

3. Go for it 🚀

You now hold all the cards and can confidently enter the labor market. You have researched the sector that you are interested in and have a relatively clear picture of it. You have also polished your relevant skills enough to win over potential employers!
During this last step, the Career Centre also offers activities which may interest you. Having a convincing resume and cover letter is the keystone of many applications: we will give you the tools to optimize your application. Is the picture on your resume a little outdated? We also organize photoshoots for students. Our counselors are also available to help you practice with mock interviews.
