What we offer

We respond to all of your pedagogical inquiries: specific questions, one-time help, support over several sessions, etc.

What you can expect

If the reinforcement of student learning is the ultimate goal of an advice or a coaching, it can also lead to :

  • save time in the preparation of your courses
  • break the routine that can set in over time
  • experiment with new teaching methods
  • increase student satisfaction
  • feel more comfortable in the classroom
  • improve your teaching portfolio, etc.

Individual interview

Talk to an educational consultant without obligation

About what?

All your questions, requests, projects related to your university teaching.

How?

  • in an interview
  • by phone or skype
  • by email.

Where?

In our offices or in your office, as you wish.

Why should i do this?

  • To get answers, suggestions, advice
  • To consult adapted tools and resources
  • Work together on your course documents (for example, the formulation of your learning objectives)
  • To engage in one or more flipped classroom sessions
  • Explore new ways to make your students active.
Observation

Get constructive feedback on my teaching

Why should I do this?

Having someone else observe your class gives you material to improve your teaching, reflect on your strategies and test new tools.

By having your class observed, you can for example get feedback on:

  • the way you communicate
  • the way you conduct an activity
  • the way you engage your students.

How?

We observe your courses, seminars, and workshops and provide you with the results of our observations. We welcome your specific requests (for example on your body language, supervision of group work, etc.). We also suggest other dimensions on which to focus the observation.

According to what principles?

We apply the principles of constructive feedback according to which all comments or observations must be useful to the person who receives them and aim at improving his/her practice.

Focus group - survey

Get immediate feedback from my students on my teaching

Why should I do this?

A focus group interview or short survey of students allows for more nuanced information gathering than in a questionnaire. It can be a useful complement to the questionnaire to better understand the comments made by students in the Student Evaluation of Teaching (EEE). It is a way to collect student feedback after a period of teaching, for example at the end of a course.

When?

A focus group or short survey can be conducted at any time:

  • at the end of the semester or between semesters, generally to clarify the results of the EEE questionnaire
  • in the middle of the semester, generally to adjust the teaching if necessary.

Where?

A group interview or short survey can be conducted inside or outside the classroom:

  • in the classroom, it allows you to take the temperature of the group of students immediately
  • outside the classroom, it has the advantage of distance and perspective.

We organize interviews in our offices.

According to what principles?

The interview is conducted by a pedagogical advisor who makes sure that the students' comments are anonymous when they are given back to the teacher.

E-learning

To provide opportunities for my students to self-assess or peer-assess

Why should i do this?

Student participation has been made easier with the use of digital tools. Now you can have a whole class vote on questions of opinion or knowledge and comment on the group's answers. You can also have student work peer-reviewed without the hassle of dividing up the papers and anonymizing them. The teaching platform takes care of that!

Participation facilitated by online tools aims to give students the opportunity to:

  • check their understanding
  • encourage practice
  • learn more about the exam output expectations.

How?

We help you to develop the content and questions; the technical and pedagogical advisors of the E-learning department will help you to put the activities online on the two teaching platforms of the UNIGE: Chamilo and Moodle, or on the online voting system of the UNIGE, Votamatic .

Action-research

Value my reflections and the evolution of my practices

Why should I do this?

To encourage the evolution of teaching methods, to test new activities, to accompany students in their approach to make one's teaching more effective in terms of learning. All of this constitutes material that is worth formalizing and systematizing in the context of action research on university teaching. This research is valued because it can lead to the release of new publications.

How?

We use our knowledge of research in the field of learning and didactics to help you choose and implement methods for collecting data, and valorizing your reflective practice as a teacher.
