All year round, workshops and programs that will help you enter the professional world are offered. These services are available to UNIGE students (except continuing education), and recent graduates during the two years following their graduation.

These services are free and accessible. You can sign up for these on our online platform.

Assess and define my career plan

The “dream job” is different for each of us. It depends on our values, interests and skills, for example. Identifying positions that are on the market and match our personality makes the job search easier and allows to aim for a professional activity that will meet our expectations and qualities.

Over the course of three group sessions and a one-on-one appointment, you will:

  • Identify your values, interests and personality (through tests), helping you recognize and highlight your skills;
  • Determine the positions that suit you;
  • Choose a specific position (that will be your target) and explain its relevance to your project.

Requirements:

  • The number of participants is limited;
  • All three meetings must be attended;
  • 10 hours of personal work are necessary.
Artificial intelligence and job search

You will discover how AIs such as ChatGPT can be precious allies in your job search. We will explore the key domains where AI can help you, and its limits. This interactive workshop will be composed of practical demonstrations, concrete examples and tips to make good use of AIs in a strategic and smart way.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Explore the different areas where AI can be used in a job search;
  • Know how to interact efficiently with AI tools, with personalized and targeted prompts;
  • Understand the limits of AI in this domain;
  • Understand the impact of AI on the employment market.
Boost your soft skills

Soft skills help you learn, interact with other people and adapt to different situations. Through daily actions, they can be taught, used in various situations and are learnt through experience. They are key elements for you to enter and thrive in the professional world.
Our program is composed of 9 units that focalize on skills most sought after by employers. Of a practical nature, this training course gives you simple and concrete tools for you to think, improve and highlight your skills. Students that have taken part in at least 6 out of the 9 units (in other words, the introduction unit), can obtain a certificate.

Coordinate work and studies

Working during your studies both brings a certain financial independence and helps to improve your skills, network and employability.
However, it can be quite difficult to coordinate studies and work, leading to possible consequences on your studies and your wellbeing. This workshop offers you personalized and practical solutions.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Identify the pros and cons of working during your studies respective to your health and your workflow;
  • Learn practical and personalized tools and methods for time management. This is a key skill in order to coordinate work and studies.
  • Undertake an individual assessment of how you proceed in different areas that influence your management of everyday academic and professional life.
Explore your future through a game: Reflectory

You're not yet sure what to do once you graduate? Thinking about your future career doesn't have to be stressful! Join us in this unique workshop where you will discover a fun way to project your career goals through Reflectory!

With this workshop, you will:

  • Experiment a fascinating introspection through the Reflectory method;
  • Explore your interests, values and desires in a unique way;
  • Connect your dreams and objectives, devising actions to undertake for the road ahead.
Find a student job

Tools for an effective search

More than 60% of the students work during their studies. Despite the vivid economy of our region, finding a job compatible with your needs and studies is not that easy.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Get information on available sectors, student jobs, and how to search for them;
  • Get tips on how to improve your strategy and tools for searching for a student job, thus increasing your chances of finding one;
  • Identify the key elements sought by employers that can be gained through student jobs, even if they don’t fascinate you!
Introduce yourself in two minutes

Approaching professionals to network or to get information is a situation you will have to deal with in any job search. You must know how to pique the curiosity of the person you are talking to within a few seconds and build the foundations of a discussion that they won’t forget.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Identify the elements of an effective pitch that will leave the best possible impression;
  • Practice introducing yourself to a professional and receive constructive feedback.

Revision and tips for your resume

Will your resume catch the eye of an employer? Take part in our short revision sessions (30 minutes) with a HR professional.

With these sessions, you will:

  • Get a first opinion from a professional on your resume (both content and form);
  • Receive advice to improve your resume and thus your employability.

The Career Centre offers all year long in-depth support for you to improve your resume and cover letters through workshops and one-on-one appointments.

Make the most out of Linkedin

Linkedin has become a major tool in searching for a job. But how do you optimise your profile? How do you catch the eye of recruiters and potential colleagues? How do you network on a professional social platform?

With this workshop, you will:

  • Learn how to improve your profile in order to catch the eye of people and be easily found by peers and recruiters;
  • Learn the do’s and don’ts in order to network smartly on Linkedin with the help of its different options.
Optimize my application

A resume and a cover letter that highlight your strengths and interests for a given position are key elements to land an interview.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Learn how to write an effective and appropriate resume (expected sections, emphasizing your experiences, education and personal projects);
  • Discover the key elements for a strong cover letter (structure and content);
  • Keep abreast of changes in recruiters' practices and expectations in your domain.

Also, we encourage you to revise your resume and cover letter with one of our counselors during a one-on-one appointment. This training will help you improve through honest, targeted and constructive feedback.

Photoshoot for your resume

A great picture on your resume helps to give a good and professional image to your employer, thus inducing a good impression of you. For instance, LinkedIn profiles that have a picture are more frequently viewed than others. This activity is an opportunity for you to have a high-quality picture for your resume and your Linkedin profile.

Please be aware of the following when coming:

Wear clothes according to the job you are applying to. Every employer (or domain) has its own dress code. What would you choose to wear to an interview for a job that you are aiming for? If you can’t choose, go for seriousness and discretion.

Prepare and nail my job interviews

The job interview is a mandatory and often delicate step when looking for a job. Making a good impression requires excellent preparation, control over this critical moment, and a lot of practice.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Identify the necessary elements for great preparation for your job interviews;
  • Know the potential questions that can be asked during an interview and how to answer efficiently;
  • Master competency-based interviews (CBI), which are regularly used by recruiters;
  • Learn to give a positive first impression of yourself during interviews.

In addition to his workshop, we encourage you undertake a mock interview with one of our counselors. This practice will help you improve with honest, targeted and constructive feedback.

"Networking or not working": this expression sums up the importance of networking when looking for a job. Discover what networking can bring you and how to do it.

We offer a complete program from theory to practice:

  • A theoritical workshop (Networking: Why and How?);
  • A practical workshop (Networking interviews training);
  • An access to the Career professional network that will help you get networking interviews.
Career mentorship program

When? Once a year

Organized by the Career Center and Alumni UNIGE (the University of Geneva alumni association), this program aims to make the first steps from the University to the professional world easier. It connects students during their Master’s degree or PhD (called “mentees”) to UNIGE graduates (called “mentors”) who want to share their experience of the professional world.

You know that you’re about to enter the professional world and are motivated to apply yourself to an exchange with a graduate mentor? They will share with you their experience in the professional world and will help you through the realization of your professional goals.

Thanks to the mentorship, you will be accompanied for 7 months by a mentor that graduated from the University of Geneva, just like you. They work in the domain you are interested in, will share their knowledge of the professional world and will help you:

  • Better understand the domain you wish to work in and its needs;
  • Discover your strengths and skills;
  • Start your network.

This program requires at least 20 hours of your time, with:

  • At least 3 one-on-one meetings with your mentor, with additional time to prepare yourself;
  • 2 general meetings (start and end of the program);
  • 2 workshops/conferences.

Who can take part in this program?

At the time of the program, students enrolled in a Master’s degree or PhD at the University of Geneva.

Meet the companies

“Meet the companies” allows you to discover a company from the inside, along with its values, different jobs and opportunities it offers to graduates (internships, graduate programs, first jobs). You can also exchange with its representatives and receive answers to your questions.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Obtain a concrete view of the activities and jobs in a particular company;
  • Build the foundations of a professional network;
  • Discover the opportunities and recruitment processes of a company.
Meet the experts

When? Multiple times during the semester

A professional will discuss their experience, job and domain with you during a short online conversation.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Discover the mechanisms of a particular position thanks to an informal conversation;
  • Obtain an overview of what an expert in a specific domain gets up to.
Networking: why and how?

"Networking or not working". This expression sums up the importance of networking when looking for a job. Whether it is to better understand the professional world, to help you define your professional interests or to improve your employability, the benefits from networking are diverse.

With this workshop, you will:

  • Understand the power of acquaintances and contacts (your network) when looking for a job;
  • Define your networking objectives (why you should network);
  • Master the steps and tools involved in networking (how you should network).

Finding a job to finance your studies can be quite difficult and time consuming. We offer counseling to make that process easier.

You will be able to, for instance:

  • Assess your current procedures and applications;
  • Get tips and information that will make your search more efficient;
  • Get information on the student job possibilities in Geneva as well as the available resources.
