Diplomas

Important: grade transcripts

  • For certified copies, please contact the faculty/institute/center;
  • For a translation, click here (FR).

Receiving your diplomas and diploma supplements

Academic titles are automatically issued after the exam sessions or the delivery of the thesis to the open archive, for PhD students.

Please note: during summer, PhD diplomas and diplomas in connection with other institutions can take several weeks to be issued due to the absence of signatories.

After each exam session (January-February/May-June/August-September), the faculties, institutes and schools give the Secrétariat des diplômes the list of students who passed their final exams. This information allows the Secrétariat des diplômes to create the diplomas (and diploma supplements, depending on the titles).

If you are a student

  • You will receive your grade transcript (or a copy of it) via post from your faculty/institute/school;
  • If you have fulfilled every requirement to get the title, you will be given your diploma during a graduation ceremony or it will be sent to you by registered post, according to the faculty/institute/center’s procedure;
    • Check if your postal address is correct on the online portal > "Mon UNIGE" > "Données de contact Étudiant";
  • If you have finished your studies and are not continuing at UNIGE, ignore the invoice if you receive one.

List of graduates

The list of graduates is published online (FR) after every exam session.

If a graduate does not wish to appear on it, they can contact the Secrétariat des diplômes via the online platform or by post, specifying the given degree and exam session (month/year) and including copy of their ID/passport.

Copies

Please note: the issue of copies takes multiple weeks during July-August due to the absence of signatories.

Generally, the UNIGE does not give copies. If your diploma was stolen or lost, a copy can be issued based on a written and justified request (for instance a police report) and a copy of your ID/passport.

Procedure

  1. Send your request for a copy with the required documents via the online platform to the Secrétariat des diplômes. This service costs CHF 25 (+ CHF 10 if the copy has to be sent abroad);
  2. You will be sent a link to pay online with a bank card or via bank transfer. The copy will be sent once the payment is made.

For CAS and DAS titles, please contact the Centre for Continuing and Distance Education, via e-mail: info-formcont(at)unige.ch.

Please note: no payment can be made at the Secrétariat des diplômes. It is necessary to send a proof of payment to the Secrétariat via the online platform before coming to collect your copy/receiving it via post.

Certified copies

  1. Scan a copy of your diploma (and/or diploma supplement if needed);
  2. Send it via the online platform, attach a copy of your ID and indicate your postal address;
  3. An e-mail will be sent to you once your request is received, with the details to pay the CHF 10 (+ CHF 10 shipping fee);
  4. Pay the fees and inform the Secrétariat des diplômes;
  5. Once the payment is made, a copy with the seal "Certified copy" will be sent to you by registered post. If you wish to collect it yourself, contact the Secrétariat des diplômes;

No payment can be made on site. You must pay before coming.

Please note:

  • The Secrétariat des diplômes only deals with diplomas and supplements issued by the University of Geneva;
  • For transcripts, please contact your faculty/institute/center/school;
  • For documents issued by the Centre for Continuing and Distance Education (CAS, DAS, MAS), contact them via e-mail: info-formcont(at)unige.ch

Reprint after name/surname/gender change

  • In case of official change of name and/or surname, diplomas and diploma supplements can be reissued in accordance with the conditions set by the Rectorate. You must give back the former diplomas and diploma supplements;
    • Contact the Secrétariat des diplômes via the online platform for any reprint request. Attach the official decision and a copy of your new ID (both are mandatory),
    • Please note: diplomas cannot be reprinted following a marriage or divorce;
  • In case of gender change, the title (Mr, Mrs, Ms) can be removed from a diploma older than 2022. You must give back the former diploma. There is no title on the diploma supplements;
    • Contact the Secrétariat des diplômes via the online platform to request a reprint of your diploma without the title.
